Sophie Howes

Child Poverty Action Group

I am the Head of Policy at the Child Poverty Action Group. At CPAG we work to end child poverty in the UK, including in larger families where we know lots of families are at risk of poverty, which is why this project is so important. I live in Leytonstone in East London with my partner Tom and our cat Cosmo. We got him from a rescue place very recently, and heā€™s finally emerged from under the bed and sometimes even wants to hang out with us, so we are making progress! During lockdown, like lots of people, we did up our broken house. It was a bit painful having to live and work in a building site but we got there in the end, and it was worth it.

My role in team is to help with engaging policy makers and decision makers in the research project ā€“ so that the findings can start making a difference to children and families living on a low income. I want those in power to take notice, and see that rising levels of child poverty in larger families is not acceptable Āā€“ and something that we can tackle if there is the political will to do so.
